The integration of renewable energy units into power systems brings a huge challenge to the flexible regulation ability. As an efficient and convenient flexible resource, energy storage systems (ESSs) have the advantages of fast-response characteristics and bi-directional power conversion, which can provide flexible support for the power system.

This paper establishes an optimization model for the ESS based on a bi-level programming model.
This paper presents a bi-level ESS configuration optimization model that incorporates considerations of flexibility requirements and operational risks within the power system. To analyze the impact of wind power uncertainty, scenario analysis theory and CVaR are used.
The optimization configuration model for the ESS is divided into the upper-level planning model and lower-level operation model. The optimal strategy of the bi-level model needs to be obtained by continuously iterating between the upper-level model and the lower-level model, which is a complex solution method.
