Three-phase string inverter systems convert the DC power generated by the photovoltaic (PV) panel arrays into the AC power fed into a 380 V or higher three-phase grid connection.
Yet, there are hundreds of string inverters inside a PV plant, it is impossible and unnecessary to predict the generated power of each string inverter. A feasible and reasonable way is to divide the string inverters into several clusters first, then to predict the generated power of each cluster.
In this paper, a hierarchical power reserve control method for a string-inverter-based PVPP to provide primary frequency control is introduced. In the inverter layer, the power reserve of each DC input channel is determined to balance the DC voltage variation of each channel during primary frequency control.
Besides, for string inverters inside a PV cluster, the predicted power of every string inverter is considered to be same.
