Electrolytes are indispensable and essential constituents of all types of energy storage devices (ESD) including batteries and capacitors. They have shown their importance in ESD by charge transfer and ionic balance between two electrodes with separation.
New electrolyte systems are an important research field for increasing the performance and safety of energy storage systems, with well-received recent papers published in Batteries & Supercaps since its launch last year.
Here, we wish to emphasise the less discussed but important role of electrolytes in EES devices, and introduce some pioneering studies in which the electrolytes contribute greatly to the improvement of device performance. The energy storage application of electrolyte material was determined by two important properties i.e. dielectric storage and dielectric loss. Dielectric analyses of electrolytes are necessary to reach a better intuition into ion dynamics and are examined in terms of the real (Ɛ′) and imaginary (Ɛ″) parts of complex permittivity (Ɛ∗) .
