South Sudan has taken a significant step toward renewable energy with the launch of its first major solar power project. The Ezra Group, a leading business conglomerate, has successfully developed and financed a 20-megawatt (MW) solar power plant along with a 14-megawatt-hour (MWh) Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).
The Juba Electricity Distribution Company (JEDCO), a public-private partnership between Ezra Group and SSEC, is responsible for distributing electricity to the public in Juba. JEDCO receives bulk energy from Ezra Construction & Development Group and distributes it across the region.
The 20 MW solar plant will generate enough electricity to power approximately 16,000 households in Juba. It will also enhance grid stability and reduce energy costs for consumers.
With a strong focus on sustainability and cost reduction, Ezra Group aims to support the country’s transition to a greener future. This project is a major achievement for South Sudan, signaling the country’s commitment to renewable energy and environmental responsibility.
