Sept. 10, 2025. (Bohdan Nazarenko/DTEK) Ukraine’s biggest private energy firm, DTEK, has launched a major battery storage facility that will bring power to hundreds of thousands of homes and strengthen the grid ahead of expected Russian attacks this winter, the company said.
As of mid–late 2025, four utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects stand out by size — each designed in the 0.5–2.8 GWh class and backed by reputable developers and public filings. Below I summarise each project, its capacity, status and why it matters. 1. Green Turtle (Rotem/Dilsen-Stokkem, Limburg — Belgium)
This solar plus storage project, located in Razlog, Southwestern Bulgaria, was realized by the EPC company Solarpro in partnership with the stationary battery manufacturer Hithium. The new facility officially went live in early June, with the delivery of Hithium’s 16 energy storage containers, each with a capacity of 3.44MWh, to Solarpro.
