The project will indirectly contribute to improved air quality through the deployment of electric heaters in ger districts in Ulaanbaatar, which is one of the major policy actions in the National Program for Reducing Air and Environment Pollution, 2017–2025.30 The project will create jobs during construction and operation.
As there are no hazardous waste treatment facilities in Mongolia, the supplier will be responsible for the final disposal of the spent battery cells. An occupational health and safety plan and an emergency response plan will be prepared, and meaningful public consultations have been conducted.
Gender analysis indicates that the project will benefit the population of Ulaanbaatar as a whole. Women are expected to benefit from reduced power outages resulting from the project.
