Lead-carbon battery is a kind of new capacitive lead-acid battery, which is based on the traditional lead-acid battery, using the method of adding carbon material to the negative electrode to improve the specific capacity and charge-discharge characteristics of the battery.
Lead-carbon battery solves the defects of low charge-discharge rate of traditional lead-acid battery, improves the phenomenon of negative sulfate, and has the advantages of good charge-discharge performance and long battery life.
A lead battery energy storage system was developed by Xtreme Power Inc. An energy storage system of ultrabatteries is installed at Lyon Station Pennsylvania for frequency-regulation applications (Fig. 14 d). This system has a total power capability of 36 MW with a 3 MW power that can be exchanged during input or output.
